II. MARRIAGE  FAMILY THERAPY (MFT) SEMINARS

These seminars, though designed for students pursuing an MFT license, are open to all students.

MFT Faculty request that nonstudents planning to attend MFT seminars let them know in advance.

Child & Teen Therapy V                                               Saturday, November 12, 10:00am-1:00pm

Ronald Mah, MA, MFT, WISR Faculty. The seminar continues examining the underlying cross-cultural and development principles of the therapeutic and life games, manipulations, and seductions practiced by adolescents (with themselves, with their peers, and with adults).  This will allow clinicians to successfully meet the demands of the adolescent inter-relational “game.”  Clinicians will be guided in how to validate the existential world of the teen by “playing” the game successfully (gaining respect and credibility versus losing the same), and then promoting therapeutic change leading to behavior, attitude, and value development. (Ronald Mah’s upcoming seminars:  12/10-Psychopathology I (Depression & Anxiety), 10am-3pm; 1/14/06, 10am-1pm.)

Counseling Older Adults, Part III                                  Saturday, November 19, 10:00am-3:00pm

Michael McGlathery, MA, MFT, WISR Faculty.   This is the continuation of a two part series on counseling the older adult.  We will finalize our interesting discussion of theories and techniques for working with this population and talk about how the field of gerontology will be the next largest area of practice. Baby boomers are much more psychologically sophisticated then the last generation and will demand more access to mental health resources.    Recommended readings; 1. "Counseling the Older Adult: A Training Manual in Clinical Gerontology," Patricia A. McDonald, Margaret Haney. 2. "Handbook of Counseling and Psychotherapy with Older Adults," Duffy, M. (Ed), (1999) New York. John Wiley and Sons, Inc.  (Michael McGlathery’s upcoming seminars: 12/17, 10am-1pm; 1/21/06, 10am-3pm.

III. ANNOUNCEMENTS I

It would be very helpful if more students from this past year would send in faculty evaluation responses! Call for a copy or find them at www.wisr.edu/academic/facultyevaluation.htm. +

J We are hoping that students, alumni, faculty, board and friends of the WISR community will forward our e-mail introduction to WISR (found at http://www.wisr.edu/help/introducingwisr.htm) to others who may be interested in enrolling or may know someone else who is.  This is a low-cost way to promote WISR and increase enrollment without spending student tuition money on expensive ads.  We are also looking for like-minded organizations to exchange website links with, so let us know if you have any ideas. Thanks! B

?Prospective students and others wishing to learn more about WISR are invited to attend WISR seminars.
