WISR SEMINARS ~ MAY, 2007
INTERDISCIPLINARY SEMINAR
Black Scholars Forum
Wednesday, May 16, 6:30-8:30pm
Vera Labat, MPH, WISR Faculty
This seminar’s discussion will continue to center around the urgent needs of reducing violence among Black and Brown youth. The Black Scholars forum intends to build on the experiences and knowledge-base of African Americans within WISR and the community at large. WISR learners of all ethnic and cultural backgrounds are welcome to share and add their experiences, insights and questions for a rich dialogue aimed toward social change and justice that is well-formed and inclusive. Participants are invited to bring finger food snacks to share.
Writing Seminar
Cynthia Lawrence, PhD, WISR Faculty
Thursday, May 17, 6:30-8:30 pm
Let’s talk about writing. Even the most brilliant and creative people can find that writing is a challenge. At WISR, much of the proof of participants’ research and accumulated knowledge is expressed in the writing up of projects. Also, when community activists do incredible projects that benefit their communities, the dissemination of their findings and actions depend on the recorded process of their project. Dr. Lawrence feels strongly that writing is a problem for some now because it was not taught well to them in the past. She feels that writing can be made painless (almost). She will share some suggestions, encourage the “WISR writing way,” and share skills that may make each of you want to run home and write something. Please bring some short example of something you have written for which you would like feedback and/or praise.

Special Note to MFT students: 10 hours of seminars on sexuality are required for the license. (Part 3 will be June 2, 10am-3pm.)
