WISR SEMINARS ~ JUNE, 2005
I. INTERDISCIPLINARY SEMINAR
Research Grants: Putting that Degree to Work! Thursday, June 23, 6:30-8:30pm
Deborah Pruitt, PhD, WISR Faculty. This seminar will focus on how to get grant money for conducting research. Whether you have completed your PhD and want to put it to work in your next career step, or you are planning your dissertation research, you should consider capturing some of the dollars ($) available from foundations to support social research. We will discuss ways to find sources of money, writing a grant proposal, and tailoring your research proposal to appeal to particular funders. We will explore interest in forming a support group for grant writing.

II. MARRIAGE FAMILY THERAPY (MFT) SEMINARS
These seminars, though designed for students pursuing an MFT license, are open to all students.
MFT Faculty request that nonstudents planning to attend MFT seminars let them know in advance.
Child & Teen Therapy I: Difficult Children Saturday, June 11, 10:00am-3:00pm
Ronald Mah, MA, MFT, WISR Faculty. Therapists are often presented with "difficult children" to "fix." However, there are often complex issues and circumstances that make a child or teen "act out" or become moody. Effective treatment comes from appropriate assessments of these issues and circumstances that lead to theoretical clarity that subsequently imply treatment approaches and interventions. Several diagnostic tools (in the form of short written guides or worksheets) will be presented that the presenter has developed over years of working with children, teens, parents, and teachers and other school personnel. (Ronald Mah’s upcoming seminars: 7/9 & 8/13-Child & Teen Therapy, II & III; 9/24-Psychopathology (Depression & Anxiety) I.)
Alcoholism and Substance Abuse I Saturday, June 18, 10:00am-1:00pm
Michael McGlathery, MA, MFT, WISR Faculty. This will be the first part of the 15 hours of classroom training in substance abuse required by the State. (Michael McGlathery’s upcoming seminars: 7/16 & 8/20-Alcoholism and Substance Abuse, II & III; 9/17.)
