Saturday, July 8, 10:00am-1:00pm: Couples Counseling- Assessment & Diagnosis When One Size Doesn''t Fit All, Part III
Ronald Mah, MA, MFT, WISR Faculty
Any given couple can present a complexity of issues. One couple''s challenges may be completely different from another couple''s problems or needs. One particular or favored theory or therapeutic approach CANNOT fit all couples. Does the therapeutic approach fit the particular couple? This training focuses on multiple assessments that clarify complexities in couple''s presentation, which then leads to more effective treatments. Part 3 of 3. (Ronald Mah''s next seminars will be August 12, 10am-3pm; and September 9, 10am-1pm.)
Saturday, July 22nd, 10:00am to 2:00pm: Practicing Psychology and Therapy with an Awareness of and Commitment to Our Impact on the Larger Society
John Bilorusky, PhD, WISR Faculty.
In this seminar, we will review, from the past 100 or so years, a range of theoretical perspectives on psychology which address larger social issues. These perspectives will include: Fanon, the Frankfurt School, psychohistory (DeMause), Szazz and Laing, symbolic-interactionism, Freire, Gilligan, and others. We will also discuss some of the articles in the November/December 2004 issue of the Psychotherapy Networker, which focused on the theme of The Citizen-Therapist: Making a Difference in the Wider World. Copies of some of these articles may be obtained by contacting WISR in advance of the seminar. One of the articles focuses on the work of former clinical social worker, and local Congresswoman, Barbara Lee "Therapist on the Hill." This seminar is the first in a series of seminars that will be led by various "guest faculty" from WISR, during Michael McGlathery's several months' leave of absence. The next seminar in this series will be on "multiculturality" and will be led by WISR faculty member, Dr. Cynthia Lawrence, on Saturday, August 19th.
