Site Navigation Tips

The main categories for navigating this web site are listed at the top of each page; they are: About WISR, Catalogue/Enrollment, Newsletter, Bulletin Board, Academic Guidance, Publications, How to Help WISR, Learning Resources, and this one, Navigation. A detailed content outline of what is covered on each of these sections can be found by consulting the Site Map. Here, we discuss some of the highlights. The web pages under, About WISR, are likely to be of special interest and use to prospective students and others who are trying to learn about WISR (except that the web page on "Official Documents" has detailed information which is likely to be useful only to those who are actively involved at WISR). The web pages under Catalogue/Enrollment, provide official programmatic information and admissions and tuition/financial information of special interest to current students and those seriously considering enrollment. The Newsletter section provides monthly announcements of upcoming seminars and activities at WISR as well as periodic updates of news about members of the WISR community, including alumni. The Bulletin Board is still in development, but eventually it should become of great ongoing interest to active members of the WISR community, and of interest to others who share some of our concerns about educational innovation, community improvement, social change, multiculturality and action-inquiry. The web pages under Academic Guidance provide current WISR students with specific suggestions for learning at WISR, although of course, many of the suggestions will be potentially helpful to others. The web pages under Publications may be of interest to many, since they provide direct access to articles written by WISR faculty, students and former students on a variety of topics, as well as information about books written by members of the WISR community. Members of the WISR community and others wishing to support WISR can find suggestions at How to Help WISR, so we can continue our efforts to provide high quality education for people involved in community improvement and social change. The web pages under Learning Resources will continue to be expanded, and they may be of considerable assistance to members of the WISR community and others, by identifying potentially noteworthy web sites, community and national organizations, upcoming events, and readings.

Supplemental categories for navigating this web site are the thematic areas of individualized education, multiculturality, social change, community improvement, educational innovation, marriage and family therapy, and action-research. Each of these web pages may be visited for suggestions on how to link to certain parts of this web site that are related to these themes, which are important to WISR's mission, purposes and ongoing learning activities. Currently, these thematic navigation links are still in the early stages of development. They will be added to over time, for people who have special interests in one of our themes, such as "multiculturality," for example.

We have made conscious efforts to design this web site to be accessible to a variety of users. Nevertheless, we expect that there are further improvements that will make our web site more accessible, and make navigating it more pleasant and comfortable for users with different needs, different Internet browsers, and different levels of technical experience. We welcome suggestions on how we can improve our web site. Suggestions should be sent to webmaster@wisr.edu and we will seriously consider these suggestions as we continue to make improvements in this web site.

For those who wish to download a more up to date Internet browser, one may use the following links to get the latest version of Mozilla Firefox (an alternative to Internet Explorer), Internet Explorer 6 or 5, or even try some other browser. There are of course, other browsers that are designed for users with special needs, and we don't presume to know enough to evaluate and recommend specific browsers. However, through TechSoup, The Technology Place for Nonprofits, we have become aware of the free browser, Simply Web 2000, which is an speech friendly, speech enabled accessible web browser with advance features that allow easy navigation of complex pages by visually impaired users.
