The Western Institute for Social Research (WISR) is known as a premiere academic institute for social change since its inception in 1975. WISR offers individualized BA, MA and EdD* degree programs for working adults. Areas of study are: Psychology (including an MA program that leads to the State’s Marriage and Family Therapy License as well as for those seeking to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor), Social Sciences, Human Services and Community Development, and Education and Social Change. Beyond the in-depth conversation(s) with the WISR President, each prospective student is encouraged to ask how they can get in touch with any students, faculty or alumni, with whom they would like to gain several perspectives on study at WISR and a sense of the learning community that they may be joining. Wisrville.org is an internet publishing site created to be a collaborative voice for the progressive community. Our focus is multiculturalism, intellectual inquiry and social activism. This is the site for 1) recent news about the WISR community, 2) important announcements, 3) upcoming events, and 4) online learning content, and blogs, hosted by WISR students, faculty, alumni and friends—on topics related to progressive social change, alternative and innovative higher education and adult learning, participatory action-research, multiculturality and community improvement efforts.
